Race Description:
The fourth annual edition of the Indpenedence Day Race was the fastest and largest yet, drawing a crowd of 448 runners. Both the men's and women's records fell. Frank Graham of Nebraska lowered the men's bar to 15:13.5, while Diane Tedford of Dalton ran a new record of 17:59.1. Beth (Voll) Herder, who had won the first three editions of the race, did not participate.
