Race Description:

The eighth annual Sam Gomez Classic was held on October 13, 1985, and was the first time the race was officially named after Sam Gomez, the former NASC Mohawk XC coach. Proceeds were donated to the Pittsfield Rape Crisis Center. A total of 77 runners participated, 35 in the long race. Bob Colantuono of North Adams won the rain-soaked long course in 53:09, more than four minutes ahead of second-place Bob Dion. Bev Smith of Pittsfield won the women's long race. Ted Hutch of North Adams won the short race, with Stephanie Brown of Williamstown winning on the womens' side. All prize winners were presented with "Sam Gomez Classic" souvenier beer steins at the awards cermony, and a beef stew dinner was held following the two races. Anyone still have one of those beer steins?
